At the end of January 2002, Sulzer Hickham Indonesia received an order from a Singapore-based major Engineering and Procurement Contractor for the complete refurbishment of a 32-MW, US design gas turbine rotor from a South East Asian based national utility company.
The repair work scope was comprehensive in nature, requiring the complete unstack and restack of the unit and replacement of all the rotating compressor blades. This project was the first joint effort carried out by Sulzer Hickham Indonesia with our fellow STS company, Sulzer Elbar, who provided inspection and repair services, including coating, to the three rows of turbine buckets.
In addition, Sulzer Hickham Indonesia was awarded the supply of the compressor stator blades for installation at site.
During the outage period, the overhaul of the unit became critical because of additional grid and production problems encountered by the end user. Sulzer Hickham Indonesia was able to expedite the repair process to return the unit to site earlier than scheduled in an effort to help relieve the availability shortage.
The unit has recently been installed. Reassembly and commissioning were completed in record time and the unit is now on line at full load.
A second unit for the same utility has recently left the workshop for fast track installation and we look forward to future international work.
