Steam Turbines

Re-blading of a steam turbine

Sulzer Turbo Services supports the repair, replacement of parts and complete overhaul for the power and industrial steam turbine. Our extensive facilities and experienced personnel have been offering this steam turbine service for over 30 years.

Typical general services include: disassembly, cleaning, NDT and dimensional inspection of all steam turbine parts. Following repairs, complete assembly is also performed on the steam turbine. Specific services include: removal of rotor blades, unstacking of built up rotors, repair and/or replacement of all steam turbine component parts such as blades, vane segments, diaphragms, labyrinth seals, bearings, couplings trip and throttle components, valve racks, stems, linkages and much more. Complete reverse engineering through modern stationary and portable CMM equipment, together with the latest generation modeling software allow us to replace rotors via reverse engineering while upgrading the steam turbine at the same time in many cases.

Our full machine shop capabilities include advanced rotor restoration welding at most facilities as well as CNC and conventional horizontal lathes and both horizontal and vertical boring mills. Other specific services for the steam turbine include coatings applied to steam path components for erosion and corrosion protection, stellite shield removal and installation, and the restoration of steam turbine components through a variety of welding/machining and coating techniques.

Certified professional engineers are on staff at all of our facilities to guide the repair process at all times. Individual component part balancing and moment weighing/charting is done prior to full rotor balancing, which can be performed at both low and full operational speed. Assembly of steam turbine rotor, and complete machine finishes the restoration process at our shop and we offer a full service Field Division to return your steam turbines to operation at your plant location.
